SUBMARINE FIBRE OPTIC NETWORK
The East-West Submarine Cable System, which has a total distance of approximately 950 km, was initiated to supplement high speed and high capacity transmission link between East Malaysia through Buntal Sarawak and West Malaysia through Mersing, Johor with two landing stations at Tarempa and Penarik, Indonesia.
Capacity
The Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) Fibre Optic Submarine Cable System provides a transmission capacity of 20 Gbps (8 channels X 2.5 Gbps X 1 fibre pair).
However, the repeater less cable system capacity is able to deliver a final capacity of 2.88 Tbps (24 channels X 10 Gbps X 12 fibre pairs) over CORNING Vascade L1000 24-fibre optical fibre cable.
Leasing of bandwidth capacity are in the multiples of
1. E1 (2Mbps)
2. DS3 (21 X 2 Mbps)
3. STM-1 (63 X 2 Mbps)
4. STM-4 (252 X 2 Mbps)
5. STM-16 (1,008 X 2 Mbps, equivalent to 1 lambda)
ONLAND FIBRE OPTIC TRUNK NETWORK
SACOFA Onland Fibre Optic Trunk Network (FOTN) covers a total distance of over 1,800km from Kuching to Lawas, Sarawak. This network has been connected to Brunei and Sabah fibre optic cable system in June 2007.
The network provides digital leased circuits utilizing end-to-end fibre optic cable with four (4) major rings system.
Main heavy users are the mobile service operators. Other users are VOIP telephony service providers, date service providers, government agencies, internet service providers and corporate companies that require high bandwidth leased circuits.
Bandwidth capacity for leasing are:
• 64 kbps Services (Single/Multiple)
• 2Mbps Services (Single/Multiple)
• 34 Mbps Services
• 140 Mbps or 155 Mbps Services
• STM-4
· STM-16
FIBRE OPTIC CONNECTIVITY TO BRUNIE AND SABAH
In order to connect to Brunei and Sabah fibre optics cable network, SACOFA has recently signed a Collaboration Agreement with Telekom Brunei Bhd (TelBru)
With this collaboration, SACOFA fibre optics network will be connected to TelBru’s onland fibre optic network, which will then be linked to Sabah fibre optic network.
With the completion of network up to Sabah, the Trans-Borneo Fibre Optic Super Highway network is completed.
RESTORATION (DIVERSITY) NETWORK
Collaboration Agreement between SACOFA and TelBru’s also connects SACOFA with TelBru’s SeaMeWe-3 submarine cable network which provides restoration to SACOFA’s submarine cable network.
